How to Fix Olympus PEN E-P1 12.3 MP with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko Digital SLR Lens

My only slr camera lens is the 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6  olympus zuiko lens, which doesn’t sound too exciting. However in practice it has been a great general utility lens that has rendered quite nicely, showing nice resolution and sharpness.

I can only anticipate what the E-P1 with olympus zuiko lens will do with a quality, wide aperture prime. I’m up in the air about my next move, but the 50mm f/2 slr camera lens sure looks tempting. But then again it would be great to try OM mount too!

slr camera lens Auto-Focus: I’ve read some questions about the auto-focus performance of this digital slr camera with olympus zuiko lens, but in normal operation haven’t see an issue yet. Granted I haven’t tried to shoot a basketball game or dance recital yet so take this with a grain of salt. For my people shooting in the mall the AF performance has been wonderful and spot on.

When I’ve gone to outdoor settings or even just trying to snap something quick from my car, I’ve found that the autofocus is quite a ways behind my D90. I think it is real world quick, but it is probably a step slower to focus than any Digital SLR Camera on the market. Not saying that’s a bad thing, some worth knowing.

Sensor: The sharpness I see from this  Digital SLR Camera with olympus zuiko lens is well beyond what I expected, so there may be something to the talk that Olympus Digital SLR Camera removed the strong anti-alias filtering most DSLR’s are plagued with.

The jpg results thus far haven’t required any post process sharpening and the Olympus color engine is a breath of fresh air in my opinion.

Handling: Coming form a  Digital SLR Camera with olympus zuiko lens will make you take a little time to get used to the difference. Getting used to shooting with a LiveView display will also take some getting used to.

There isn’t a front/rear two wheel control system as I’m used to with the D90, but there are two primary controls for manual shooting and they can both be worked while shooting one handed.

This olympus zuiko lens very nice design! The buttons and functions are all fully customizable but expect to be nestled up with the manual a wee bit to do it. All in all composing from the LiveView LCD became very natural and fluid after a day.

High marks to  Digital SLR Camera with olympus zuiko lens in designing such a usable system. The only thing I still have to figure out is a button to disable auto-focus so I can go fully manual.

Incredible price on Olympus Zuiko ED SLR Camera Lens

I bought this digital slr lens. It turned out I was wrong and had to do it on the Amazon Store Card to get those repayment terms. I was going to send it back, but I decided to try the digital slr lens out with my camera. I instantly fell in love with the results! There was no way I could ever send this digital slr lens back! It is now my favorite lens.

I photograph many events that involve lots of people like parties and reunions. Many times these situations involve lots of people in close quarters. I bought this digital slr lens primarily for the purpose of being able to shoot a restaurant table full of people within close quarters, and yet get everyone included in the frame, without any of the rectilinear or pin cushion distortion one would encounter with most extreme wide angle lenses.

This digital slr lens by Zuiko from Olympus proved to be the answer to my prayers. I love this digital slr lens! There is some distortion that appears to stretch the width of the subjects at the edge of the frame particularly in 7mm mode, but like any lens there is a learning curve that one has to experience to find the sweet spot of a new tool, and this digital slr lens is a great tool. I photograph the Graduate Student Events for Baruch College.

I am an MBA student there too. Just type the words Baruch College Photos into Google and click on the 1st few links to see some of the photos taken with this digital slr lens. I use Olympus cameras and lenses only. The Zuiko digital slr lens 7 - 14 mm is top notch on my list.

Customer Digital SLR Lens Reviews

I am writing this in simple terms. I found several, several reviews on this SLR Camera lens but they were all in technical terms and leaves you scratching your head a little. So, if you are like me maybe this review will help you.

I bought this Digital camera lens a couple months ago from US1Photo.com (check these guys out. They regularly have significant sales and terrific customer service). I use this lens with a Canon 40D.

I take several types and styles of pictures so I needed a lens that would do the best job at several things and have a very affordable price (right at or less than $1,000). I looked through new, used, third party (Tamron, Sigma, etc) lenses, and read too many reviews and looked at too many images to count, and spent four hours in a photography store playing with lenses before I decided to spend money and take advantage of this digital slr lens. All in all I spent about a week’s worth of time in research and testing before I bought this lens.

Step 1:The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM does not track moving objects very well and the farther to the end of the zoom the slower the tracking.

This, I have found, to be completely wrong. I have used the lens at several sporting events and found that it tracks rather nicely. I was able to track every step of a base-runner from first base to second, slide, and recovery after the play without losing ONE shot.

To see what I am talking about check out my gallery on Flickr. The older ones are NOT done with this lens or camera and taken, actually, several years ago. I will reference the pictures in question.

Safe, Got There By a Mile, Breaking Up That Double Play (please note that as time goes on from the date that this was posted the pictures may have been re-moved). Also, “Safe” was used instead of another shot taken at the same time and angle with a 70-200mm IS lens.

To take these shots I used “AI focus” and the “H” settings on my camera for quicker tracking and the H settings for about 6 frames per second.

Step 2:The 200-300mm range is nice in theory, but a tack-sharp photo from the 70-200mm f/4L at 200mm is going to look better cropped than a 300mm full-frame photo from this lens.

Again, I found this to be wrong. Though I have no actual “full sized” picture for this if you comment back with an email address then we can arrange a viewing of one. Otherwise, take my word for it, I own several lenses and this one stacks up well.

The pictures from the Dance Theater and Tashina were all taken at the 200-300mm focus lengths. Again, they are not full sized because of photo pirates, but if you email me we can see about full sized shots.

Step 3:The IS motor is loud I do not know what these people are talking about, but if you call that loud On the other hand, I have heard (once), the sound of the IS motor, but if you are not listening for it you will not even notice it.

Things I have found about the lens:

If you spend some time with the dslr lens will be one of your best friends. It is a great lens especially for people on a budget (like me). To take the best pictures you cannot just twist it on and go to shooting. Take the time to LEARN about the lens (change shutter speeds, ISO settings, aperture, white balances, etc) and it will show you where it shines - just like the L series lenses and the 70-200mm IS.

This dslr lens has a solid make and feels like it will last forever. Then again, as you zoom the dslr lens does extend and is plastic. So, watch out if you are doing sports. You may get it knocked off. It did well for me, though. Extending while zooming makes putting a hood on the lens a bit (very little; so little that you cannot tell) awkward and it looks kinda goofy.

I like the SLR camera lens because it is not as bulky as the 70-200mm lens and it is extremely mobile. It is as quick as some other lenses, not as quick as some, and quicker than others. It will give you great quality pictures. It does have its limits, however: in low light situations not being able to take it back a couple stops and get a wider aperture will not give you the same shot as a 70-200mm. Then again, like I said, it doesn’t drop to that f/2.8 and does not cost all that money. This has been the single drawback for me about the SLR camera lens.

I use this SLR camera lens for portraits (Tashina, Samantha), for sports (see gallery), and music (Shawn Pander - See Gallery). So, it’s pretty versatile. I have yet to use with it flash, but that is because I simply do not like to use flash. I have yet to use it in a studio setting, but when I do I will amend this review and add a couple of those pictures as well.

This digital slr lens comes highly recommended from me. I am not a big time, highly paid, or well known photographer. I just like to shoot and like what I shoot to be of the best quality that I can have AND afford at the time. So, if you are like me and cannot spend the needed $1,500 - $1,700 on a 70-200mm IS lens then spend your money on this lens. You will not be sorry for it.

• Very good Digital SLR Camera lens. I bought my K100D bundled with this kit lens and took it around Europe for two weeks. I found it to be very light and easy to use. The provided lens hood works great for protecting the lens, and it’s reversible when you don’t want to use it.
• so you can’t reach the focus ring, but that’s not really a fault. On a related note, the focusing ring feels very loose, but that’s probably because this is an auto-focus lens.
• I found that the 18mm wide end was usually good enough to get a picture of a medium to large room. The 55mm end felt a little too short at times, but Pentax also makes a 50-200mm lens that goes really well with this Digital SLR Camera Lens. I found that I rarely need a very long telephoto zoom though, so this EF Telephoto lens worked very well for me.
• Both the 18-55mm and the 50-200mm lenses use 52mm diameter filters so you don’t have to buy another set.
• Some people have found that the focus ring on the 18-55mm and 50-200mm lenses feel unsmooth, like there’s sand trapped inside the lens. From what I’ve read, this seems to be a pretty common thing. Both of my lenses have this issue, but it hasn’t affected their performance at all.
• The only time that I notice the grittiness is when I switch to manual focus. Overall, I think this is a good SLR Camera lens, especially for the price. It can be pretty sharp at smaller apertures, and reasonably sharp wide open.

If you’re like me, you can’t find the EF Telephoto lens anywhere unless it’s being marked up 50-100% by businesses taking advantage of the shortage (supply & demand, right?).

After 2 months I got tired of waiting for the EF Telephoto lens and bought this 18-200mm Tamron instead (vacation just days away). I have taken many dozens of walk around photos with this lens attached to my D200 getting a feel for it’s capabilities. As a photo hobbyist rather than a real photographer, I produced some very acceptable results (and a few stinkers too).

At higher magnifications it is more susceptible to camera shake than say my 70-300 Sigma lens, and I believe that may be due to the Tamron being a “slower lens” requiring slower shutter speeds to get the same amount of light through it (at high zoom). I can see where the Nikon VR lens would win hands down here since it’s faster AND has vibration reduction, BUT - Do not discount this SLR Camera lens as I have managed to, with patience & a steady hand, or a tripod in some cases, produced great results.

The Tamron is not all that noisy, and the auto focus is pretty quick. It does fail to autofocus in certain shady conditions so if you do most of your shooting in moderately dark shade you might run into trouble. It seems to do better with “contrasty” shade rather than dim grayish backgrounds where it really hunts for focus (mine anyway).

I can’t seem to get consistent results with the Tamron using a flash indoors. About half of my flash photos are slightly out of focus despite my best efforts at hand holding the camera still. The clear pix are great however. I have yet to take any indoor pix using my SB-600 flash so all of my indoor shots to date are using the pop-up flash. That probably has no bearing on the fuzzy shots I’ve produced but I thought to mention it.

Overall I recommend this Digital SLR Camera lens as a suitable outdoor walkaround lens. Nearly all of my outdoor shots are nicely sharp with great color and contrast. It’s operation is smooth and feels good. For indoor shooting you MAY want to carry a faster lens like a fast, fixed (prime), or even the 18-70mm “kit” Nikon zoom which does significantly better indoors.
